Osobita ljubav Engleza prema tom za\u010dinu potje\u010de iz kolonijalnog doba, pa tako rado pripremaju mirisno pecivo <em>&#8220;Ginger Bread&#8221;<\/em> (\u0111umbirni kruh) ili omiljeno fermentirano pi\u0107e <em>&#8220;Ginger Ale&#8221;<\/em> (\u0111umbirno pivo). Dolazi na tr\u017ei\u0161te kao neoguljeni gomoljasti korijen, a tako\u0111er se u prodaji mo\u017ee prona\u0107i i mljeveni tj. u prahu.<\/p>\n<p>Rizom \u0111umbira je\u00a0pomalo trpkog, paprenog okusa i blagog limunastog mirisa. Zbog svojih ljekovitih svojstava jako je cijenjen u medicini i kuhinji. Preliti vodom tek toliko da pokrije \u0111umbir i staviti na vatru da zakuha. Kuhati 10 do 15 minuta, ocijediti i postupak ponoviti jo\u0161 jednom. Tim postupkom uklonit \u0107emo jedan dio gor\u010dine iz \u0111umbira.\u00a0Nakon \u0161to je \u0111umbir dva puta prokuhan, preliti ga sa pripremljenih 500 ml vode i \u0161e\u0107erom te kuhati na laganoj vatri oko 40 do 45 minuta dok teku\u0107ina ve\u0107im dijelom ne ispari i dok se ne dobije gust sirup.\u00a0Za to vrijeme \u0111umbir bi trebao ve\u0107 dosta omek\u0161ati.
